What We’re All About
We are local citizens who believe that rural education is worth fighting for. We do not believe that closing schools will lower costs, achieve better performance, or provide the long-term sustainability that our students, parents, and teachers require.
Our mission is to defend rural schools, safeguard town self-determination, and provide equitable access to education for ALL students in our District.
To do this, we engage in local advocacy and develop sustainable alternatives to closing schools, such as:
Reducing spending for administration in direct proportion to declining enrollment
Right-sizing staffing to align with State-recommended guidelines
Increasing revenue through voluntary mergers with other districts
Encouraging innovation such as shared services, rotating electives (Art, Music, etc), and staggered classes.
Returning to educational models that worked when Vermont had fewer students, such as multi-grade classrooms, fewer electronics, and more unstructured time outdoors.
Consolidating into ever-larger districts with ever-larger administrative spending and longer and longer bus rides is NOT sustainable and it has been proven to not save money. Please join us if you'd like to join the fight to save rural education in Vermont.
We can do this!
